About AEEF
The Aligarh Education Endowment Fund (AEEF) has been established for the enhancement and modernization of education, and improvement of educational opportunities for the underprivileged sections of the Indian society, especially the minorities. This should result, in the long run, in economically uplifting these groups and helping them to become productive members of the Indian society.

Over the last decade, India has undergone tremendous economic growth, fueled by the Information Technology revolution supported by its large pool of college graduates. Unfortunately, a large section of the Indian society has been left behind primarily because of lack of educational opportunities, especially in Science and Technology. The digital divide is continuing to widen for this section of the society. A glaring example of a component of this underprivileged section of the society is the Muslim community. Although numbering 150 million, the Muslim community constituting 13.5% of the population in India, has produced only 1.5% of the graduates in technical and medical fields. That Muslims are educationally the most backward community in India was acknowledged for the first time by the government in 1986, vide Program of Action - New Education Policy and again in 2006-2007 through Sachar Committee report. Unless major efforts are undertaken to boost the educational standards, the economic backwardness of this underprivileged group, would become a drag on the economic growth of the country. Moreover, for its own prosperity as well as to play its positive role fully in this globalizing economy India needs to tap every ounce of its manpower talent.

The AEEF is organized as a non-profit entity, under Section 501(c) (03) of IRS, with a Board of Trustees overseeing the vision, the overall objectives, the financial goals and the strategic direction of the organization. A Board of Directors will direct the governance and operations of the organization, with the help of a management team, including the selection and execution of the projects and disbursements of the funds. They will be supported by an Advisory Board composed of experts in a variety of fields. The AEEF will fund a broad variety of educational projects, ranging from high-school to post-graduate levels, including professional areas such as Information Technology, Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, Management and Business Administration, with emphasis on areas which will accelerate the flow of the young generation into the economic mainstream.

The initial focus of the fund will be at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). AMU has been selected initially because of its prominence as a Central University and a premiere Minority Institution, in an economically backward state.

The initial fund raising campaign will be concentrated in the United States and Canada. Major donors, foundations and corporations will be targeted. This will be followed by general, large scale fund raising from all types and levels of donors throughout the world, including Europe, Middle East and India. An Indian non-profit entity will also be established.

The long-term financial goal is to raise 10 million US dollars and fully endow the fund, using only the investment income for carrying out educational projects. The first year goal is to raise 500,000 dollars.

Individuals, corporations, foundations and governments are requested to donate generously to this humanitarian, educational cause.
