Maulana Azad School was established in 2018 to address a critical gap in the educational landscape—providing quality education to children with special needs and those from socially marginalized backgrounds, who are often overlooked when it comes to access and opportunities. Located in a rented facility in Abul Fazal Enclave, Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, the school currently serves 120 children across five classes, from playgroup to Grade 2. To accommodate the growing number of students, the school is actively seeking a larger rental space nearby.
The primary aim of Maulana Azad School is to create a nurturing environment where children with special needs can overcome their challenges and receive the educational, physical, and emotional support they require to integrate and thrive as equal members of society. The school is managed by Being a Woman, a non-profit organization founded in 2011, and is supported by individual donors as well as several partner organizations.
The Aligarh Education Endowment Fund (AEEF) began supporting the school in 2019, providing scholarships for students and funding key infrastructure improvements to ensure a safer and more conducive learning environment for these children.
The school’s success is made possible by a dedicated team of professionals—including four special educators, a speech therapist, an occupational therapy teacher, and five assistant teachers—who are committed to empowering every child and helping them realize their full potential. Together, they strive to create a space where every child, regardless of their circumstances, can grow and succeed.
